CPAC Releases Nebraska Legislative Scorecard, Revealing Greater Polarization in the ‘Nonpartisan’ Legislature.

ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 31, 2024) — CPAC Foundation’s analysis reveals that Nebraska’s most progressive legislators voted far more liberal this year compared to past years. This is best observed in the radicalization of legislators like Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh, Sen. Megan Hunt, and Sen. Carol Blood, whose scores fell by about 30%.

“After weeks of filibusters and a slew of frivolous amendments from radical Left-wingers in the legislature, it’s safe to say that Nebraska had a turbulent session in 2023,” said CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp. “It’s good to see that conservative policymakers leading to fight to protect minors from gender mutilation, babies from the evils of abortion, and Nebraska firearms owners from gun control groups."

Seven lawmakers in the Nebraska State Legislature earned CPAC’s Award for Conservative Achievement for voting with the conservative position at least 80% of the time during the 2023 session. They are listed below:

Joni Albrecht (86%)

Robert Clements (86%)

Steve Halloran (86%)

Teresa Ibach (86%)

John Lowe (85%)

Steve Erdman (80%)

Rita Sanders (80%)

The bills featured in CPAC’s 2023 Ratings of Nebraska address Second Amendment freedoms, school choice, and combatting radical gender ideology. These issues, coupled with our mission to protect life, liberty, property and uphold the American family, created the basis by which the CPAC Foundation rated the Nebraska legislature.

The Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA), an initiative of the CPAC Foundation, is the premier organization for holding lawmakers accountable. The CLA produces the longest-running conservative congressional scorecard and our state program is the only one in the nation that scores all 8,000 lawmakers in the 50 states across every policy area.
