The Minnesota State Legislature has gotten more conservative over the past year, according to the American Conservative Union Foundation’s annual ratings of state legislatures. 

The American Conservative Union Foundation conducts an annual, in-depth analysis to rate all 8,000 lawmakers in America, revealing their positions on a wide variety of issues directly affecting our communities and families.

Republicans in Minnesota stood strong and opposed Governor Walz’s excessively harsh economic lockdown. These lawmakers were a vital voice for economic freedom and personal liberty in the midst of heavy-handed government policies from the governor’s office. 

The state’s overall score improved by four points from last year, with the Minnesota House of Representatives leading the way in conservative leadership.

New Minnesota Legislature Rises in Conservative Rankings in New Analysis

Alexandria, VA—New analysis from ACUF, the host of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), reveals that the Minnesota Legislature will rise in ACUF’s rankings of the nation’s Most Conservative Legislatures. The improvement in Minnesota’s performance is partly due to a majority of lawmakers who opposed Governor Tim Walz’s economic shutdowns and restrictions of individual liberties.

“After more than a year of shuttering businesses and banning children from learning in the classroom, Governor Walz has suggested that ‘normalcy is on the horizon,’ without actually lifting the lion’s share of his edicts,” said ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp. “These vague and empty promises were never enough for conservatives of the Minnesota Legislature, who fought to restore individual liberties from the outset. We hope these lawmakers will apply this same tenacity to opposing the governor’s leftist spending proposals.”

ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of ACUF’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 elected officials across the nation view the role of government while illustrating the differences between chambers of the legislature and revealing lawmakers’ positions on a wide variety of issues that directly affect citizens.

ACU Foundation reviewed each piece of legislation voted on in both chambers of the legislature to produce average scores of each chamber as well as individual scores for each sitting member.
