Hawaii Ranked 3rd Most Liberal In Nation
New CPAC and ACUF scorecard evaluates lawmakers across 186 policies
ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 28, 2021)—The Hawaii legislature has been named the most liberal in the nation. That’s according to a new analysis conducted by the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, and the American Conservative Union Foundation, (ACUF). The analysis reviewed the voting records of over 8,000 elected officials across all 50 states, and found that only 23 percent of votes cast by Hawaii lawmakers were aligned with the conservative position. Hawaii trailed only behind Vermont (21%) and Massachusetts (16%).
ACUF’s Ratings of Congress and Ratings of the States are initiatives of American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF)’s Center for Legislative Accountability (CLA). These ratings are designed to reflect how over 8,000 elected officials across the nation view the role of government while illustrating the differences between chambers of the legislature and revealing lawmakers’ positions across 186 policy areas that directly affect citizens.
For the 50th anniversary of ACUF’s ratings program, the CLA has launched a new platform to help activists:
Run head to head comparisons of state and federal lawmakers
Learn the conservative policy position through the system’s 15,000 bill database
Breakdown every lawmaker’s strongest and weakest policy area
