America UnCanceled: Mercedes Schlapp & Esther Ntoto

Mercedes Schlapp and Esther Ntoto, co-founder of Africa New Day, bring to light the persecution of Christians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on this special, Holy Week episode of America Uncanceled.

Ntoto is particularly focused on assisting the women affected by the persecution. 80% of women are being raped, attacked, and murdered by the gangs terrorizing the region. The plight of these women struck Ntoto in a special way as a survivor of sexual assault herself.

“I thought, ‘God, what happened to me was for such a time as this.’ My calling was clear,” said Ntoto. “I was to come now, show my sisters, my mothers, my children that this doesn’t stop your life. On the contrary, that’s when everything starts. What happens to you doesn’t determine who you are.”

Ntoto serves these women and girls in a number of ways, but primarily through a school. She says education is key to changing mentalities and uplifting these women and children.
