On the Rise of Left-Wing Violence and Attacks on Christianity: Pastor Lucas Miles and Mercedes Schlapp on America UnCanceled

As America mourns the tragic assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, Mercedes Schlapp, host of America UnCanceled, welcomes Pastor Lucas Miles to discuss the way forward for conservatism and the threat of the left’s attacks on Christianity. Pastor Lucas Miles, Senior Director of TPUSA Faith and author of the new book Pagan Threat: Confronting America’s Godless Uprising, for which Kirk penned the forward for being his last written statement, discusses the rising threat of left-wing violence and paganism in America.

Schlapp comments on Kirk receiving prayers and support from around the world, with CPAC Paraguay and Australia, and VIVA Europa in Spain just wrapping up, demonstrating Kirk's legacy reaches around the globe and will shape the fight for conservatism for decades to come.

Miles comments on how the left's toxic response to the assassination is indicative of their growing disdain and attacks on Christianity, with many mocking Kirk and his legacy just for being a conservative, apart from being a human being. Pastor Miles said that Kirk understood the conditions that created the environment in which attacks on Christianity began with “the indoctrination of our children and the Marxist injection into society.”

The left’s attacks on Kirk after his passing demonstrate they are unable to see him as a human being apart from the right vs. left dichotomy, echoing the societal indoctrination Kirk warned against. This dehumanization seen in the left-wing media is used to justify violence against political opponents, resulting in tragedies such as the two assassination attempts on President Trump last year and, of course, the tragedy of Kirk’s assassination. Miles said that the rise of violence and dehumanization is because of “the total departure from a Biblical or Godly worldview, and then you wonder why kids grow up with no value for human life.” 

Many on the left, such as disgraced CNN commentator Don Lemon, argue that Kirk’s memorial service was not an example of authentic Christianity but of “Christian nationalism on full display.” Schlapp said that the left uses the term “Christian nationalism” as a dog whistle to silence Christians who seek to talk about Jesus Christ publicly and reinforce their godless and hateful ideology. Miles said that this concept is touched on in his book Pagan Threat, where this is an example of “self-deification” in an attempt to make man god rather than accept Christianity and any transcendental morality or values, deciding to reject the natural order: deciding when life begins in the womb, which gender they identify as, or ultimately who decides who lives or dies, in an “attempt to put oursleves on the throne so we can decide.” 

Miles, however, said that after the tragedy of Kirk’s assassination, there has never been a better time for unity and courage, which was seen in the outpouring of love for Kirk’s memorial service. Miles said that as the initially visceral reaction wears off, it is important not to forget who is responsible for what happened and the broader societal challenges that significantly contributed to the tragedy. Miles calls on proclaiming the Gospel message, as Kirk would have done, which teaches unity in adversity across ideological lines. Kirk said that “friction can create fire,” where differing opinions are rubbed against each other long enough, the best ideas will rise to the top.
