A Black Hawk tragically collided with an American Airlines plane landing at Reagan National Airport the night of Wednesday, January 29. Marine Corps Colonel William “Burner” Dunn weighed in on the tragedy on America Uncanceled.
More questions are arising as more information emerges about the catastrophe including that the Black Hawk was flying too high.
“I don’t think it is an issue of an incompetent pilot,” said Dunn, noting that one pilot had over 500 flight hours and the other had 1000.
Dunn offered an explanation, “What I understand is there should have been two air traffic controllers on that day. There was one for some reason. The investigation needs to find out if that is true and if that is true, why was there only one.”
The increased traffic at Reagan National Airport is potentially another factor that some elected officials have raised concerns about in the past and has resulted in several near-misses. Dunn weighed in on the possibility of reducing airline traffic at Reagan National Airport for the sake of safety.
