Statement from Matt Schlapp

My message to young people who are so impacted by Charlie Kirk:

You'd make Charlie awfully proud if you continued fighting. But also if you fought in a way where at the end of the day, you can go have a cup of coffee with someone who you disagree with, and show that there's a humanity to this important endeavor that we're involved in.

The world is grieving the tragic assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, yet some Democrats are exploiting this tragedy for cheap political talking points, revealing their disregard for free speech and reliance on hateful rhetoric. CPAC Senior Fellow Mercedes Schlapp, on The Right Squad, called out Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar for attacking Kirk’s legacy, highlighting how such actions show Democrats’ inability to connect with moderate voters and appeal to the average American.

Many on the left have accused President Trump and conservatives of undermining free speech by criticizing those who disparage Kirk, claiming it’s a double standard despite conservatives imposing no legal or legislative consequences. Rep. Omar, a vocal critic of Kirk, declared his legacy belongs in “the dustbin of history.” Schlapp countered that these remarks expose Democrats’ accusations against conservatives as a pretext for spreading hate. She argued that this radical approach is why Democrats struggle to resonate with moderate voters.
